Phylogeny with Spongebob by thehurricanes Phylogeny with Spongebob by thehurricanes
Ah, guys, this is my biology homework!
I didn't have much time, so it's just a doodle (I know I screwed up some parts.) - but at least it's my first attempt to draw those Spongebob characters.

Isn't it funny that they can all fit in the classification diagram? However I had to make up 3 new characters. And ... oh noes! I totally forgot Cnidaria (jellyfish)!

It took me hours to figure out how to arrange those animals, and determine their common traits. This diagram is based on genetics, not morphology.

Spongebob, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, Patrick, Sandy, and Plankton are copyright (c) Stephen Hillenburg
The planarian, ragworm, and roundworm belong to me.

<3 :iconbioscience: and thank a lot to Tree of Life Web Project!

This is amazing. I was looking for something cute and comical to put in a powerpoint lecture I am giving on phylogenies and this would be perfect if you don't mind. :dalove:

My bio professor put SpongeBob characters in his lecture, and then quizzed us on which character was which phylogeny.

I like how the nematoda has sunglasses. Makes it cooler than ever than just hungry little bugs that eat everything.

Hahaha your professor is so cute!

I actually forgot about the nematodes in the cartoon and came up with mine.

Forgot to cross the first T in "deuterostome" there on the right. Otherwise, fantastic work! They say it's the best way to learn

Haha, thank you. It was hard for me to learn some many big terms at the same time.

Actually I found this diagram very useful. Now I stare at it whenever I have biology class, so I can answer my teacher's questions quickly. I do learn a lot of from it.

I'm sure of that, you put there main differences between taxa. And it's also very funny. xD

Thanks for the happy laughter. :)
Is Plankton really the ancestor of us all?

Well that would be embarassing... I mean if our brains haven't really developed since then...(plankton is rather smart) :P

Hillenburg is kind of my idol now. A famous biologist-cartoonist, what career could ever be better?

Thanks! :D I hope the phylogenetic trees in my textbook are also as cute.

I was thinking how many, from my watchers, would understand this except the people studied in biology?

I love it!
I remember this topic from first term at uni. I thought exactly as you did, when the lecturers mentioned sponges and jellyfish I was just like, "Spongebob ... Spongebob ..."

PS: You could have used the nemotodes that are already in Spongebob, the ones that ate his house lol.

Thank you! :D Glad to hear somebody actually thought about the same thing, hehehe.

And yea, I forgot about those nemotodes, since I watched the cartoon in Chinese, so it's hard to associate it to those Latin words. :P Anyways, I like mine with sunglasses too.
